| Evaluation: Do I have Testicular Cancer ? |
Education: Testicular Cancer is classified as either seminoma or nonseminoma based on the cell type from which it is derived. Seminomas come from the germ line cells that give rise to sperm cells while nonseminomas are usually derived from supporting testicular cells such as Sertoli or Leydig Cells. The nonseminoma forms of this cancer are more agrressive and can quickly spread to the lymph nodes. Most cases of testicular cancer occur between the ages of 15 and 45. It is recommended that all men in this age group perform testicular self-examinations. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 7,500 males will be diagnosed this year with testicular cancer and about 400 will die from it. 95 percent of those who get this type of cancer will live more than five years, up from 79 percent in the mid-1970s |
