Major Events in the evolution of Humans during the past 10 million years The secret to understanding the origins of human life is in the DNA. It is important to understand the steps that altered the chromosomes of our ancestors. It looks like retrotransposons, horizontal gene transfers, and HERVs are major driving forces in the evolution of modern man. The very few new human "creating" genes appear to originate directly from bacteria, transposons, retroviral elements, and Genomic Reorganizations of 400 Hot Spots. The result of this genetic transformation since our common ancestor with Chimpanzees is a 30 Mb Genomic Expansion that is primarily attributable to LINE 1 Retrotransposons. Ultimately the question becomes ..."Where do the viruses and bacteria come from ?". I believe that the panspermia hypothesis is the best answer to this question . (ie. New genetic material responsible for evolutionary progress is brought to the earth by comets and asteroids.) The source of this genetic code can be traced to extant and current solar systems. The most important being the extant geminga solar system and solar systems from the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy.
